Frommer's Review
On a masonry terrace above the seacoast, a short walk from the moored fishing boats of Calabash Bay, this hotel doesn't have the international cachet or the sense of fun of nearby Jake's. But for an older and more conservative clientele, it's a solid alternative. Built in stages beginning in the late 1970s, on a 2.2-hectare (5 1/2-acre) site, Sunset Resort might remind you of an enlarged version of a 19th-century sea captain's house, thanks to a two-story central core and horseshoe-shaped pair of symmetrical wings that enclose a pool. The bedrooms, however, are larger than those at Jake's, though with none of their decorative flair. Each has noncontroversial, low-slung furnishings, some made with New England-style knotty pine. Most rooms come with tub-and-shower combinations. There's a restaurant (The Red Lobster) and bar on-site.
Facilities:
Restaurant; lounge; pool; bike rentals; limited room service; babysitting; rooms for those w/limited mobility; outdoor barbecue; free snorkeling gear; fishing
