Campgrounds
Port Orford Area--Cape Blanco State Park is the most popular camping spot in this area, and reservations aren't accepted for campsites. However, there are some basic cabins here that can be reserved through ReserveAmerica (tel. 800/452-5687; www.reserveamerica.com).
Gold Beach Area--Up the Rogue River between Gold Beach and Agness, you'll find two campgrounds: Lobster Creek and Quosatana. A third, Illahee (for all three: tel. 541/247-3600; www.fs.fed.us/r6/Siskiyou), is another 6 miles past Agness, though not on the river.
Brookings Area--The best base for exploring the scenic wonders of Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor is Harris Beach State Park (tel. 800/551-6949 or 541/469-2021; www.oregonstateparks.org), on the beach just north of Brookings. Up the North Bank Chetco River Road out of Brookings, you'll find Alfred A. Loeb State Park (tel. 800/551-6949 or 541/469-2021 for information, or 800/452-5687 for reservations; www.oregonstateparks.org), which is set amid redwood and myrtle trees along the banks of the beautiful Chetco River. A bit farther up the Chetco is the Forest Service's Little Redwood Campground (tel. 541/412-6000; www.fs.fed.us/r6/siskiyou), which is the site of a very popular swimming hole.
