Banks -- One of the most central banks for exchanging money is SpareBank, Domkirkeplassen (tel. 51-67-67-00). You can also exchange money from June to August at the visitor information center.
Car Repair -- Call tel. 51-53-88-88, a 24-hour hot line.
Consulates -- There is no U.S. representative. Brits can go to the United Kingdom Consulate at Prinsens Gate 12 (tel. 51-52-97-13).
Dental Service -- There is a dentist open every day to handle emergencies. The name of the dentist is published in the Saturday newspapers. Otherwise, call for an appointment at the office of Ognedal Hans Kristian, Kongsgate 44 (tel. 51-52-03-17).
Doctor -- In an emergency, call tel. 51-51-02-02. Otherwise, ask your hotel staff to recommend a doctor, all of whom speak English.
Emergencies -- Call tel. 110 for fire, tel. 112 for the police, and tel. 113 for an ambulance.
Laundry -- If your hotel doesn't have facilities, go to Renseriet, Kongsgate 40 (tel. 51-89-56-53).
Left Luggage -- Go to Byterminalen (no phone), the city terminus, Monday to Friday 7am to 8pm, Saturday 8am to 10pm.
Pharmacy -- Your best bet is Vitusapotek Løven, Olav V's Gate 11 (tel. 51-91-08-81), open daily 9am to 11pm or 8pm on public holidays.
Post Office -- The main post office is at Haakon VII's Gate 9, open Monday to Wednesday and Friday 8am to 5pm, Thursday 8am to 6pm, and Saturday 9am to 1pm.
