Clarion Hotel Stavanger

This is Stavanger's second-tallest building and better than the Radisson SAS sisters. It's a smoothly contemporary blockbuster that's on every corporate list as a well-managed hotel. (About 70% of its clients work in the oil or oil services industries.) Set 2 1/2 blocks uphill from the harbor, it lies within a 7-minute walk to every attraction in the Old Town. It's a tall, elegant, contemporary hotel with 14 stories and a decor that's accented with lots of polished stone, burnished copper, and Nordic birch. Ironically, it's positioned midway between two of its most powerful competitors, the also-recommended Radisson SAS Atlantic and the Radisson SAS Royal hotels. Pahr Iversen, a locally famous artist, crafted the paintings in the lobby and the tile work in most of the bathrooms.
