Restaurants

For a killer sandwich to eat on the premises or in the woods, Backcountry Provisions, 635 Lincoln Ave. (tel. 970/879-3617), is the place, with creative offerings like the Sherpa (asiago cheese, roasted eggplant, tomato, red peppers, and more) and the Timberline (peanut butter, banana, and local honey). Midway between the slopes and downtown, Freshies, 595 S. Lincoln Ave. (tel. 970/879-8099), is the local favorite for breakfast and lunch, with omelets, eggs "Benny," and a wide range of sandwiches and wraps. Winona's, 617 Lincoln Ave. (tel. 970/879-2483), is a locally beloved downtown breakfast and lunch spot.

Many of the restaurants in Steamboat Springs cut back their hours or close completely in the slow seasons -- primarily spring and fall -- so if you're visiting at those times, it's best to call first to confirm hours.
