Midway between the slopes and downtown, Freshies, 595 S. Lincoln Ave. (tel. 970/879-8099), is the local favorite for breakfast and lunch, with omelets, eggs "Benny," and a wide range of sandwiches and wraps. Winona's, 617 Lincoln Ave. (tel. 970/879-2483), is a locally beloved downtown breakfast and lunch spot.

Many of the restaurants in Steamboat Springs cut back their hours or close completely in the slow seasons -- primarily spring and fall -- so if you're visiting at those times, it's best to call first to confirm hours.
