Frommer's Review
An 8-mile drive northeast of Maho Bay, this is an interesting concept in ecology vacationing, where you camp close to nature but with considerable comfort. It's set on a hillside above the beach surrounded by the Virgin Islands National Park. To preserve the existing ground cover, all 114 tent-cottages are on platforms above a thickly wooded slope. Note that wooden boardwalks, with lots of stairs, connect each unit. Each tent-cottage, covered with canvas and screens, has a surprising array of conveniences, including a couch, electric lamps and outlets, a propane stove, an ice chest, linen, thin towels, and cooking and eating utensils. Guests share communal bathhouses. From May to December, kids under 16 stay for free with their parents, making this place especially attractive for families. Maho is more intimate and slightly more luxurious than its nearest competitor, Cinnamon Bay.
