With just nine rooms, the contemporary Stone Hill Inn (built in 1998) offers personal service and a handy location, along with room amenities that include in-room VCRs, Egyptian cotton towels, and double-sided gas fireplaces that also front double Jacuzzis in the sizable bathrooms. (Note: Rooms don't have phones, but a private phone booth is off the lobby.) Room layouts are roughly the same, each featuring a small sitting area. High-ceilinged common rooms have fireplaces and billiard tables, and there's a well-stocked guest pantry with complimentary beverages and mixers. An outdoor hot tub offers guests a relaxing soak. Breakfast is in a bright morning room where every table is window-side; hors d'oeuvres are set out each evening. Stonehill lacks a patina of age and may strike some visitors as somewhat sterile, but it will please those willing to forego timeworn character in exchange for quiet and luxury.
