The Vermont Ski Museum

When you're schussing through little downtown Stowe, the Vermont Ski Museum, at 1 South Main St. (tel. 802/253-9911; www.vermontskimuseum.org), makes a serviceable stop; it's filled with memorabilia and exhibits on such topics as the history of ski lifts, and the interesting Vermont Ski Hall of Fame is on the mezzanine level. Inductees include Mead Lawrence (who won two medals in the 1950 Winter Olympics) and Billy Koch (a silver medalist in 1976), both of whom trained in Vermont. The museum is open Wednesday to Monday from noon to 5pm (closed Nov and mid-Apr to late May). Technically it's free to enter; the suggested donation is $3 per adult or $5 per family.
