St. Petersburg has always been a baseball town, and Tropicana Field, a 45,000-seat domed stadium alongside I-175 between 9th and 16th streets (tel. 727/825-3100), is the home of the American League's Tampa Bay Devil Rays (tel. 888/326-7297 or 727/825-3137; www.devilrays.mlb.com). Baseball season runs from April through October. Single-game tickets are $3 to $75 and are usually available on game days. Call or check the website for the schedule. The Devil Rays move outdoors to a new facility in Port Charlotte in 2009 for spring-training workouts and games from mid-February through March. See the team's website for more information.

The Philadelphia Phillies now play their spring-training season in new digs in Clearwater, at Bright House Networks Field, 601 Old Coachman Rd. (tel. 727/442-8496). Their minor-league affiliate, the Clearwater Threshers (tel. 727/441-8638; www.threshersbaseball.com; $4-$9), plays in the stadium from April through August. The Toronto Blue Jays do their spring thing at Knology Park, 311 Douglas Ave., in Dunedin (tel. 800/707-8269 or 813/733-9302; www.bluejays.mlb.com; $13-$24), which is also home to their minor-league affiliate, the Dunedin Blue Jays (tel. 727/733-9302; www.dunedinbluejays.com), April through August.
