A 5-minute ride by taxi from the center of town, this stylish inn grew out of the 1781 home of the first French governor. Much modified and changed over the years, it is today a heavily favored destination for collectors of Caribbean inns, those visitors who don't want to be part of activity-packed resort activities. Its midsize bedrooms are elegantly appointed and comfortably furnished, opening onto garden, mountain, ocean, and city views. The wide porches of the inn open onto views of the harbor. The hotel also offers good food, most often served on its open-air terrace.
