The Landmark Theatre, 362 S. Salina St. (tel. 315/475-7980; www.landmarktheatre.org), the last-remaining Depression-era movie palace in central New York and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a great place to take in a concert. The streets in Armory Square are lined with hopping bars, and nearby the IMAX Theater at the MOST has Friday- and Saturday-evening showings until 9pm. Coleman's, 110 S. Lowell Ave. (tel. 315/476-1933), is a classic Irish pub.
Syracuse is host to the New York State Fair at the 375-acre Empire Expo Center, 581 State Fair Blvd. (tel. 800/475-FAIR; www.nysfair.org; adjacent to Rte. 690 just west of downtown), the last 2 weeks of August. The fair, which hosts all kinds of big-name musical acts and other exhibitions and entertainment, draws more than a million visitors annually.
