Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum

Celebrate the Chesapeake Bay at this unusual museum. You'll know you're in for something different when you enter the driveway -- under the old Knapps Narrows Bridge. The centerpiece is the picturesque Hooper Strait Lighthouse, and all around are fascinating exhibits about boat-building, fishing, oystering, and the people who earn their livelihood on the water. Other star attractions are the skipjack, installed in the new Oystering Building; the boatyard, where expert builders work year-round to restore historic boats; and the historic boats docked here. The grounds are open as a waterfront park after the buildings close for the day; no admission is charged then.
