With doors that fold away to reveal the rich, sleek interior to the sidewalk, you'll be drawn by this restaurant's long banquettes and sepia-toned photos of Venice. But Scossa's real appeal is its northern Italian dishes, which feature fresh, simple ingredients. Puréed vegetables transform into velvety soups. Crusty bread is topped with olive butter. The fresh-made pastas and risottos are the star. Lunchtime salads and sandwiches have Italian style, too. And Italian tapas? Who knew! But it's a great way to get a taste of Scossa for $13. The wine list features Italian and California vintages with some French champagnes. Live music, mostly jazz, wafts through the dining room on weekends.
