Restaurants

Tashkurgan is hardly a culinary center, but you'll find a number of basic options along Tashikuergan Lu near the junction with Hongqilapu Lu, including Wushi Lao Huimin Canting, which offers passable langman, or for something a little spicier, Yangguan Meishi turns out Sichuan favorites including huoguo and gongbao jiding.

The only upscale option is the Karakoram Restaurant at the Crown Inn (9-10:30am, 1-3pm, and 6-10pm), which offers a wide range of well-presented local, Chinese, and Western dishes. Specialties not to be missed include "High Altitude Fish seasoned with Xinjiang Spices and cooked on Tashkurgan Stones" (¥168), "Spiced Horse Salami with Sesame Seeds" (¥38), and the huge grilled yak ribs (¥188). Western dishes include pizzas and pastas (¥45-¥98), and there are tasty desserts such as apple strudel (¥18). To stock up on snacks, try Arman Supermarket on the junction of Tashikuergan Lu and Hongqilapu Lu.
