Frommer's Review
Built as a Travelodge motel in the 1960s, this waterside hotel has been renovated by its owners, the San Francisco-based dive company Aqua-Trek, which has its Taveuni base here. Most of the clientele are divers since this is the closest hotel to the White Wall and its Rainbow Reef (a 20-minute boat ride away in normal conditions), but the friendly staff welcomes everyone. There is no beach, but there is a fine view over the Somosomo Strait to Vanua Levu, and all the rooms face it. Each medium-size unit has a queen and a single bed, tropical-style chairs, a desk, and a tub-and-shower combo bathroom. All but the two rooms used as dormitories are air-conditioned (the dorms have ceiling fans). Opening to a strait-side pool, the dining room serves meals, which always include vegetarian selections, at reasonable prices. Guests and nonguests can rent kayaks and go on snorkeling trips to Korolevu islet offshore and even to the Rainbow Reef with Aqua-Trek. The hotel also arranges hiking trips and other excursions.
