Bibi's Hideaway

Jim Bibi (prounced Bim-bee), who describes himself as "100% Fijian," retired as a teacher at the Fiji Institute of Technology in Suva in 1984 and bought this 32-hectare (80-acre) coconut plantation. He cleared away the brush by hand with a machete, and built five plywood-and-tin cottages, one for each of his children (they later added a sixth). Most of his offspring prefer the fast lane in Suva, however, so now he rents out their cottages. They are simple but clean and fairly spacious structures. Not all of their windows are screened, but mosquito nets hang over the beds, which range from two singles to a queen-size. One bungalow dedicated to backpackers has a kitchen and an outdoor shower. All showers here dispense cold water. Along with Vatuwiri Farm Resort , this is a good place to get to know local residents.
