Frommer's Review
Why visit an Indian restaurant in Israel? Only for some of the best food, ambience (relaxing, but elegant), and pleasant service in Tel Aviv. Tandoori is serenely presided over by Vinod Pushkarna and his wife, Reena, whose Jewish Bombay heritage helped to create the restaurant's special atmosphere. Try the ever-changing all-you-can-eat daily luncheon buffet, one of the best values in town, or share a succulent plate of boneless tandoori chicken with rice and side dishes. Two can easily dine in the NIS 68 ($15) per person range. You can also have an extensive multicourse feast. I especially like the chicken dishes served in skewered chunks, such as the boneless breast of chicken marinated in mint and herbs; the fabulous chicken tikka masala; and a dry sautéed vegetable dish so light and elegant it almost seems to herald Indian nouvelle cuisine. The homemade dessert dumplings and Indian ice creams made of thickened milk and dried fruits and nuts are very interesting. There's a beautiful menu that carefully explains the exotic dishes and many regional cuisines on the menu. Ask about lassi, Tandoori's refreshing chilled yogurt and fruit drink.
