Frommer's Review
Erez Komarovsky's wonderful gourmet bread bakery/restaurant in upscale Herzlia has become a local legend, and although you have to go up to Herzlia to try the complete Erez restaurant, a number of Lehem Erez (Erez Bread) bakery cafes have opened throughout the Tel Aviv area. At press time, this one is the most accessible to travelers. Indoors, there are a few pocketsize tables beside the inviting bread counter, but there's also a wide, covered sidewalk filled with roomier tables. There are constantly changing lists of sandwiches designed by Erez, all made with top-quality ingredients, the contents richly herbed and drizzled with olive oil (a salami, fig, arugula, and buffalo-milk cheese sandwich was delicious). There are also platters and salads, but who could pass up Erez's bread? The dessert list is legendary, with chocolate fondant, ice cream, muffins, cheesecakes, lemon tarts, and decadent brownies among the rich creations. The business lunch, served from 11am to 5pm, includes a sandwich, salad, hot or cold drink, and dessert. The menu is in Hebrew, but the staff will patiently translate. A great place for an after-theater coffee and dessert. Takeout is available.
