Frommer's Review
In summer, Gilly's means fine grilled meats served on a spacious deck overlooking the sea. In colder weather, there's a vast, high-ceiling dining room. The menu, like the setting, is very roomy: There are over 20 appetizers each day, ranging from a great spicy fish soup loaded with seafood, to cured salmon in tequila and orange peel marmalade. A lavish green salad tossed with blue cheese and fresh seasonal fruit can be ordered as a meal in itself. But people come here for the meat: beef filet wrapped in puff pastry; rich veal cordon bleu; beef stew with root vegetables in red wine with tomatoes; veal in white wine and mushroom sauce, and much more. There's also a main course menu of pasta, fish, seafood, and hamburgers prepared in ways you'll rarely see; try the beef filet burgers with foie gras; with basil, roasted peppers and feta cheese; or just American style. Entrees are served with potato au gratin and salad; meats come with a choice of sauces. On the long dessert menu, the apple puff pastry with ice cream and pear sauce is great.
