You can see Yemenite-style silver jewelry, with its intricate filigree patterns, at shops throughout Israel; at Ben Zion David's workshop and showroom, in the heart of the beautifully restored Old Jaffa bazaar, you'll find some of the best examples of craftsmanship and design in this tradition created by more than 1,000 years of Yemenite Jewish silversmiths. The many branches of the David family have been skilled silver workers for generations; perhaps because of the family's long reputation for quality and fairness, prices here are quite reasonable, despite the upscale tourist location. There's an enormous selection of earrings, bracelets, rings, and necklaces, as well as delicate mezuzzot, candlesticks, and Chanukah dreidels -- all ornamented with fine filigree designs. The showroom is generally open Sunday to Thursday from noon until late in the evening, Friday from 11am to 3pm, and on Saturday evenings after Shabbat. Credit cards are accepted.
