Frommer's Review
The venerable Sagamore Hotel dominates the southwestern shoreline of Lake George. Anyone looking for a little decadence will find it here, particularly at the resort's new spa. The hotel spans a 72-acre island, with just about every activity available--there's even a rock-climbing wall and mini-golf course--and nothing beats the dining choices here: There's a classy dining room, a casual pub, even tapas on the veranda, where guests in top hats and corseted gowns once mingled in the 19th century. Today the Sagamore draws all kinds, and offers upscale rooms in the historic hotel, a striking castle that can be rented by the month (the entire castle can be rented, and accommodates 12 people), or relatively plain, modular lodges available for families looking to stay a while. This is an excellent choice for travelers with children.
