Zinc ReviewZinc leapt to the upper echelon of Berkshires dining nearly as soon as it opened. For one thing, it is the best-looking restaurant in town, with its eponymous zinc bar, faux tin ceiling, flowers, lacquered woods, tile floor, and butcher paper over white tablecloths. The cuisine and wine list adhere with some rigor to the French-bistro canon. Start, perhaps, with foie gras adorned with quince and brioche. After that, past menus have listed such toothsome entrees as grilled lamb loin with spinach and chickpea fries, and pan-seared diver scallops with sweet potato and andouille hash. A remarkable 24 wines are available by the glass, most of which go quite well with the five-cheese tasting ($15). Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
