Gurney's Inn Resort & Spa Review

With an idyllic setting on a bluff over a gorgeous stretch of private ocean beach, the friendly and unpretentious Gurney's sprawls across several building and has a great European-style spa. Only some of the buildings are right on the ocean, and the range of rates reflects your view. Although the nautical theme and cruise-ship vibe of the place scream 1970s, most of the recently renovated rooms are spacious and modern inside. The marble-and-glass interiors may not be overly charming, but a beige-and-green color scheme gives them some warmth, and they are comfortable and generally get plenty of light. Head to the full-service spa if you have a vision of getting a massage on the beach; this is the place to make it a reality.

Facilities:
3 restaurants; lounge; children's programs in summer; concierge; big exercise room overlooking ocean; heated indoor seawater pool; limited room service; spa

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
