Frommer's Review

Set on a bluff over a gorgeous stretch of private ocean beach, Gurney's sprawls across several buildings and has a great European-style spa. Only some of the buildings are right on the ocean, and the range of rates reflects your view. Rooms are spacious and very modern, which translates to a bit sterile. The marble-and-glass interiors may not be overly charming, but a beige-and-green color scheme gives them some warmth, and they are comfortable and generally get plenty of light. Head to the full-service spa if you have a vision of getting a massage on the beach, for this is the place to make it a reality.

Facilities:3 restaurants; lounge; heated indoor seawater pool; big exercise room overlooking ocean; spa; children's programs in summer; game room; concierge; courtesy bus; salon; limited room service; massage (in-room available); laundry service; same-day dry cleaning.

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
