The Islay Woollen Mill, Bridgend (tel. 01496/810-563; www.islaywoollenmill.co.uk), has been making a wide range of country tweeds and accessories for more than a century. (It made all the tweeds used in Mel Gibson's Braveheart.) The mill shop, open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm, sells items made with the Braveheart tweeds as well as tasteful Shetland wool ties, mufflers, Jacob mufflers and ties, flat caps, travel rugs, and scarves.
