Frommer's Review
One of the most venerable and historic hotels on Martinique lies within the massive walls of a manor house that once administered many acres of surrounding sugar-cane fields. It was built between 1720 and 1800 by a prominent French family, and almost resembles a medieval church. A fire in 1990 gutted the building's interior and led to 4 years of restoration. Today, three bedrooms are on the upper floors of the original house, and another eight are within a modern, less inspired one-story annex. Rooms within the annex, although not as dignified, have antique West Indian beds and direct views over the garden. A truly superb beach, Plage des Salines, is a 5-minute drive to the south, and a slightly less appealing beach, Plage de Ste-Anne, is within a 15-minute walk.
