Review of University of Toronto Art CentreThis is a real find -- and one that very few people outside the Toronto university community know about. You enter the center from the University College quad, an Oxford-style cloistered garden that in itself is a work of art. Inside, you'll find a gallery housing the Malcove Collection, which consists mainly of Byzantine art dating from the 14th to the 18th centuries. There are early stone reliefs and an assortment of icons. One of the Malcove's gems was painted by a German master in 1538: Lucas Cranach the Elder's Adam and Eve. The rest of the Art Centre is devoted to temporary exhibitions, which offer University College's collection of Canadian art and other special exhibits. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
