This longtime favorite of the suited Financial District set has been thoroughly renovated and relaunched. Gone is the casual Californian earth-tone palette, mounds of greenery, wine racks, and simple wooden tables and chairs. This incarnation of Far Niente is all about sleekness, from its leather banquettes to its soft lighting. The good news is that the menu is just as strong as ever. Starters run the gamut from tiger shrimp in a yellow curry broth to Malpeque oysters served with horseradish and shallots. Main courses are even more inventive, with such dishes as lobster potpie (a half-pound of lobster in a tarragon cream sauce in a puff pastry crust). The main-course menu also covers the basics, with simply grilled steak and seafood plates.
