This was Toronto's first serious venture into true Southern Italian pizza. It's since grown to be something of a mini-empire and a tried-and-true place for fine, thin-crust pies; good pastas; traditional salads made with beans, greens, and sausage; and other traditional dishes and desserts made with nonna's kitchen in mind. It's a great value and always popular. There are other locations at 1 Balmoral Ave. (tel. 416/925-4020) and 106 Victoria St., Dundas Square (tel. 416/955-0258), as well as more serious dining rooms at Osteria Ciceri e Tria (106 Victoria St.; tel. 416/504-1992) and the new Bar Centrale in Midtown (1095 Yonge St.; tel. 416/504-1992).
