My favorite wine bar is still one of the best bets in Toronto. Jamie Kennedy is a local legend, and his commitment to locally sourced, organic produce makes eating even the simplest dish here a joy. The chef's innovative take on bistro cuisine is reminiscent of a tapas bar: All of the plates are small (with prices to match), and dishes include crisp Yukon Gold frites, asparagus with poached egg and pine nuts, and tender duck confit with polenta. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable; ask about the difference between a glass of Ontario Riesling and a French sauvignon blanc, and you're likely to get a taste of each as well as an explanation. The only caveat is that reservations aren't accepted, so show up early, and be willing to take a seat at the bar since tables are in short supply.
