This restaurant has long been a Toronto institution, but its new management has given the dining room a sleek update and the menu some interesting turns. The dressed-up all-ages crowd often starts out at the wine bar downstairs, moves up to the main floor for dinner, and then migrates back downstairs for R&B music and a nightcap. The menu calls itself "New American," but many choices lean to contemporary Canadiana, such as the grain-fed Québec capon paired with a foie gras mousse and sun-dried cherries, or French modern, like the rack of lamb in a Provençal honey-mustard crust. Delicious desserts run the gamut from tiramisu to banana-bread pudding. The wine list is sure to thrill oenophiles.
