Think of this as summer camp for adults. Guest cabins are adequate but basic, with screened rather than glass windows (which means that they can get noisy, as all the guestrooms are in a series of one-story buildings with shared verandas). It’s also double the size of the other lodges in the area, so it can feel a bit too bustling. But does that really matter when you’re surrounded by all this glorious nature? Laguna Lodge sits on the ocean side of the main canal, about a 20- to 30-minute walk north of Tortuguero Village. It boasts splendid gardens, including a butterfly and a frog garden, and two resort-style pools; the beach is just a couple hundred yards away. Meals are served buffet-style in a large, covered, open-air dining room overlooking Tortuguero’s main canal.
