Getting There -- A do-it-yourself tour of Troy is a risky proposition, simply because the excavated portions of the site remain only partially labeled, and the nonexcavated portions are still just a confusing pile of rubble and stone. Cumhuriyet Cad. 5, Eceabat; tel. 0286/814-3121; www.anzacgallipolitours.com), both arrange half-day excursions to Troy. (Hassle Free runs their 27YTL/$20 tour in the morning; TJ schedules theirs in the afternoon; 33YTL/$25). If you're more of a solo traveler, the dolmus stand for transportation to Troy is located at the entrance to the fairgrounds on Atatürk Caddesi in Çanakkale.
Visitor Information -- There is a Visitor Information office (no phone) at the entrance to the archaeological site (next to the Trojan Horse) where you can get an overview of the site as well as peruse reading materials written entirely in Turkish.
