C'era una Volta ReviewTo enter "Once Upon a Time," you must ring a bell at street level and then climb the stairs or take the elevator to a large, old-fashioned dining room filled with heavy old tables and chairs and dark credenzas. Until recently, they offered only the set-price tasting menu -- and, for most of us, that was plenty (in fact, that was often more than plenty; we didn't have to make plans to eat anything for the next 24 hr.). However, due to popular demand by eager diners who just couldn't handle those massive meals, the restaurant has now introduced prices a la carte -- though they've rigorously refused to change anything else about this classic Torinese establishment. The food, delivered by a highly professional waitstaff that has been here for years, is authentically Torinese and never seems to stop coming. A typical menu, which changes daily, might include crepes with ham and cheese, risotto with artichokes, a carrot flan, rabbit stew, a slice of beef with polenta, and any number of other wonderfully prepared dishes. You will want to accompany your meal with a fine Barolo or any other of the cellar's 300 local labels. Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Please be sure to confirm all rates and details directly with the companies in question before planning your trip.

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
