Frommer's Review
This was Britain's first country-house hotel, and it's the oldest British member of Relais & Châteaux. Sitting on 4.8 hectares (12 acres), it's an unusual Victorian house with a low angled roof and wide eaves. It was a private home until purchased by Francis Coulson in 1948. Realizing its potential, Coulson restored the structure, sleeping on the floor while work was in progress. Three years later he was joined by Brian Sack, and together they turned Sharrow into one of England's finest places to dine. Today, the hotel offers 26 antiques-filled bedrooms, 17 of them in the gatehouse and cottages. Individually decorated, each is named after one or another of the glamorous (and often famous) women who have swept in and out of the lives of the articulate owners. Some of the rooms offer views of the lakes, trees, or Martindale Fells.
Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; 2 lounges; room service; laundry service; dry cleaning

| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
