Plenty of locals will tell you that Sue's, which has been around for 2 decades but suffered a devastating fire in 2003, is the stuff of legend. That's big praise for an informal breakfast-and-lunch place, but Sue's, now restored and reopened (and for my tastes, a tad too antiseptic), is still the real deal, a terrific neighborhood cafe. Breakfast is extraordinary, with pecan-crusted French toast, 25 kinds of pancakes (including pumpkin), and amazing home fries. The lunch menu changes weekly but always makes use of the finest handpicked produce and locals meats, with vegetarian specials. You'll surely have to wait for a table, but you will be happy you did.
