Frommer's Review
Along the banks of the old Delaware & Hudson Canal, hovering between the Hudson Valley and the Catskill Mountains, is this surprising retreat attached to one of the finest restaurants in the region. A cute and cozy Victorian cottage that backs right up to the canal houses two charming, if not overly large, rooms. You'll also find a larger "Chef's Quarters" upstairs, with a low-peaked ceiling, kitchenette, and Jacuzzi, but without some of the flavor of the other two rooms. Across the street, near the famed and atmospheric Depuy Canal House restaurant, two more rooms have been created; they are larger suites and one has an outdoor garden patio and screened sitting area, but I prefer the rooms in the original cottage. For both dining and outdoors enthusiasts, and those on the lookout for the unique, this is a small slice of heaven: There are great trails for hiking, and the Mohonk Nature Preserve, with 90 miles of trails, is nearby. But it's a little idiosyncratic and won't suit everyone.
