Frommer's Review
A uniquely stylish and chic take on a country inn -- modern boutique hotel rather than same-old Victorian B&B -- this cutting-edge place, opened by a couple of young Manhattan refugees in 2002, is one of the coolest and least expected spots in the region. A 1929 Mediterranean villa on 4 acres of woodland bordering on two brooks, it turns the notion of country rustic on its head, substituting a hip midcentury modern aesthetic that appeals to hipsters from the city (if you're not one, you may feel out of place). Rooms are enlivened with original art, yet they don't sacrifice comfort for style. Each room is uniquely decorated and inviting; beds and linens are top-of-the-line. Two rooms have private entrances. Gourmet breakfasts are served on the outdoor patio in season, and a 40-foot outdoor pool beckons. Saugerties is on the upswing, with new hip restaurants and a wealth of antiques shops and art galleries, and Woodstock and the Catskills (including Hunter Mountain) are only minutes away.
