Frommer's Review
If someone told you a member of the New Wave band The B-52s bought and renovated a 1950s motel in the Catskills, it would look . . . exactly like this. Kate is Kate Pierson of that famously buoyant band from Athens, Georgia, and she and a team of hip designers from New York City have created a retro-kitsch retreat, a Love Shack in the mountains, for those cool enough to appreciate it. The funky motel rooms -- which will soon be complemented by five Airstream trailers and, believe it or not, five heated and equipped tepees in the meadow by the river -- are all with bright colors, paneled walls, and hip, Jetsons-esque midcentury furnishings. Several rooms have kitchenettes, and there are both two-bedroom and two-story loft cabins. One unit is pet-friendly (as long as your mutt doesn't weigh more than 25 lb.). Kate's Lazy Meadow certainly achieves what it sets out to do, even if you do get the feeling you're paying for the name recognition and novelty.
