Emeril's Tchoup Chop ReviewPerfection is pronounced "chop chop." Emeril Lagasse's second restaurant in Orlando is named for the location of his original restaurant, Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans. Think Todd English's bluezoo with an Asian Pacific twist -- very chic, very contemporary, very cool. The upbeat yet relaxing atmosphere, visually stunning surroundings, and excellent food will ensure the experience is unmatched. The exotic decor features glass flower chandeliers and a grand stone wall that reaches high above an exhibition kitchen (a seat at the counter allows for quite an impressive show). Polynesian- and Asian-influenced dishes such as macadamia-encrusted Atlantic salmon, crab cakes with mango-habanero-butter sauce and papaya salsa, and crunchy shrimp drizzled with a hot-and-sour chili glaze are just a sampling of the tasty offerings found here. Mains range from Mongolian barbecue grilled pork tenderloin to seared yellowfin tuna -- but the sake-braised short ribs simply melt in your mouth. Not one but several waiters will impeccably cater to your every need, serving meals as if they were in a perfectly choreographed production. In 2010, a Sunday brunch was added to the lineup. Served up between 10:30am and 2pm, the prix-fixe menu offers a choice of starter, soup or salad, and entree. While too extensive to list in full, expect to find a mix of traditional offerings (but with Emeril's signature culinary kick) alongside a varied selection of Asian-inspired dishes. Note: The dress code here is more casual than at Emeril's, but it's still pretty upscale, so leave the T-shirts and tanks at home. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
