Villaggio Lirial Punta Spalmatore

Sicily's coastal towns are riddled with self-contained tourist villages, and this is the island's best such choice. Set 4km (2 1/2 miles) from Ustica village on the western coast, it's entirely surrounded by native trees and plants. Most visitors spend their days in the terraced pool area with a panoramic view of the ocean; some guests from Palermo never even leave the grounds. The buildings rise only two floors, and accommodations are in bungalows with small but comfortable guest rooms and shower-only bathrooms. The cuisine is typical resort fare, but much use is made of fresh produce when available. Otherwise, foodstuffs have to be shipped over from Palermo. The wide range in rates depends on when you're here -- the highest prices are charged in July and August.
