Frommer's Review
Valparaíso's first boutique inn was the brainchild of an American-Chilean who saw the potential in tourism here long before many others made the plunge. After purchasing several neighboring and run-down homes, he enclosed the properties in zinc and wood and gave the interiors a dose of antique-chic charm, blending period furniture with a vaguely nautical decor and other bric-a-brac. The top floor was converted into a glass-enclosed terrace with an absolutely knockout view of the city; upon arrival you're given a complimentary bottle of wine, and one could hardly fathom a better place to drink it than overlooking the twinkling lights of the city.
The rooms are cozy, with antique armoires and fluffy comforters; most have a bay view, and their Sky Suite has panoramic views but is pricey at $250 (£125) considering its folksy decor. I must rave about the breakfast here: Few hotels bother to serve such a hearty and diverse breakfast when it's included in the price. The hotel is several blocks up from the Espíritu Santo funicular, and close to the Pablo Neruda museum. Always book directly, confirm your reservation, and let them know when you're showing up -- management has a faulty reservation system that it really should straighten out.
