Frommer's Review
One of the city's best spots for Malaysian food, Banana Leaf is just a hop and a skip from English Bay. The menu includes inventive specials such as mango and okra salad, delicious south Asian mainstays such as gado gado (a salad with hot peanut sauce), mee goreng (fried noodles with vegetables topped by a fried egg) and occasional variations such as an assam curry (seafood in hot-and-sour curry sauce), with okra and tomato. For dessert, don't pass up on pisang goring -- fried banana with ice cream. The small room is tastefully decorated in dark tropical woods; the rather unadventurous wine list features a small selection of inexpensive reds and whites. Service is very friendly. A second location is located at 820 W. Broadway (tel. 604/731-6333); same prices and hours apply.
