Frommer's Review
Influenced by the exotic dining and decor found along the Silk Road, Sanafir creates an opulent and fun dining experience that doesn't cost a fortune. The first-floor dining room is loud and buzzily exciting, but parties can also drink and dine upstairs while reclining on pillows beneath sexy harem-style draperies. The tapas-style plates come in three of five possible Silk Road variations: Asian, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Indian, or North African. And the trio of tastes costs only C$14 (US$12/£6). Say you order the scallops, your three-dish tapas plate might contain a seared Indian five-spice scallop with mango chutney, sautéed scallops wrapped in lettuce with a hoison glaze, and a gently poached scallop over a kasha and sumac salad in a fennel-scented phyllo cup. Larger chef's specials are also available, such as the superrich oxtail cappelletti with white truffle cream, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and shaved black truffle. The showoff interior and the quality of the food makes this a destination restaurant worth trying. There's no sign, but look for the most glamorous place on gentrifying Granville Street, and you'll be there.
