Frommer's Review
The location of this new dining spot might put some visitors off, and single women will probably be uncomfortable walking along the horribly named Blood Alley alone at night. And that's really a shame, because Salt is unique, and a wonderful place to get a good, inexpensive meal. The room is long and minimalistically modern, with communal spruce dining tables. Salt has no kitchen per se as it serves only cured meats and artisan cheeses plus a daily soup, a couple of salads, and grilled meat and cheese sandwiches. For the tasting plate you mix and match three of the meats and cheeses listed on the blackboard. To drink, choose from a selection of beers, and several good wines and whiskeys, or opt for a wine flight. As Blood Alley has no street numbers, look for the salt shaker flag over the doorway. Try it for lunch if you're in Gastown.
