Frommer's Review
What makes The Listel unique is its artwork. Hallways and suites on the top two Gallery floors are decorated with original pieces from the Buschlen Mowatt Gallery (Vancouver's preeminent international gallery) or, on the Museum floor, with First Nations artifacts from the UBC anthropology museum. The interior of this boutique hotel (much favored by business travelers) is luxurious without being flashy. All the rooms and bathrooms were refurbished in 2007. Rooms feature top-quality bedding and handsome furnishings. The roomy upper-floor suites facing Robson Street, with glimpses of the harbor and the mountains beyond, are the best bets. Each is individually decorated with handsome, handpicked pieces of furniture, and some have cozy window banquettes; you don't find this kind of personalized charm in many hotels. Some bathrooms are larger than others, with separate soaker tub and shower. Rooms at the back are quieter but face the alley and nearby apartment buildings. In the evenings, you can hear live jazz at O'Doul's, the hotel's restaurant and bar; during the Vancouver International Jazz Festival in late June, it's the scene of late-night jam sessions with world-renowned musicians. If you don't like jazz, go instead for the Eggs Benedict in the morning. The Listel also enjoys a killer location, right at the western end of the Robson Street shopping and restaurant strip. You can walk downtown or to Stanley Park in 10 minutes.
