Frommer's Review
If you want to stay in a hip, happening, luxury hotel, try the Opus -- in 2005, Condé Nast Traveler voted it one of the world's top 100 hotels. It's the only hotel in Yaletown, the trendiest area in the city for shopping, nightlife, and dining. Each room is furnished according to one of five "personalities," with its own layout, color, and flavor. Everything is done well here, and the luscious room colors are eye candy if you're tired of blah hotel interiors. The beds are wonderfully firm with feather duvets and top-quality linens. Bathrooms are fitted with high-design sinks, soaker tubs or roomy showers (or both), and feature L'Occitane toiletries. For the best views, book one of the corner suites on the seventh floor. The small exercise room has big windows for people-watching over the street while working out on the latest equipment. The hotel also has a business center available free for guests' use. The cool Opus Bar serves an international tapas menu, and on weekends becomes one of Yaletown's see-and-be-seen scenes (be forewarned: this area of Yaletown is Club Central, and can be noisy until the wee hours; book a Courtyard Room if you don't want to be disturbed). Opus's top-notch restaurant, Elixir, serves modern French bistro food; if you just want a great latte and a croissant, pop into Café O, right off the lobby. A complimentary car service is available to take you to cruise-ship terminals or any downtown location. Note: Until mid-2008, part of Davie Street, right outside the hotel, is closed off for construction of the new Canada Line light-rail system. The highest prices listed are for suites.
