Varazdin's Tourist Association is at Ivana Padovca 3 (tel. 042/210-987 or 049/210-985; www.tourism-varazdin.hr). The office is open April 15 through September 15 from 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday; from 9am to 1pm Saturday; and from 10am to 6pm Sunday. From September 16 through April 14, they are open from 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday; from 10am to 1pm Saturday; closed Sunday.

The very helpful and friendly office not only distributes maps, brochures, and suggestions about dining and accommodations in town, but they also have information about the entire area, including Medimurje to the north.

T-Tours at Ivana Gundulica 2 (tel. 042/200-991; fax 042/210-990; www.t-tours.hr) puts together packages for day or overnight tours of Varazdin, Trakoscan, Ludbreg, or Medimurje. Packages include transport, museum tickets, and sometimes meals, rooms, or a wine tasting.

Getting There

Varazdin is about an hour's drive northeast from Zagreb along well-marked highway. The town is also linked to the capital by frequent bus service (26 per day) and train service (14 per day).

Getting Around

Varazdin's central district is a pedestrian area, so you'll have to park on the outskirts of Trg Ban Jelacica north of the sights and walk in. Stari Grad (castle) is a 5-minute walk from the center of town.
