Review of Ca' Pesaro

Tired of Venice's one-two punch of baroque and Byzantine? Check out the two museums housed in this late Renaissance palazzo on the Grand Canal. The first collection is the Museo d'Arte Moderna (Museum of Modern Art), which houses works -- most of them bought during Venice's own Biennale over the years -- by the likes of Chagall, Kandinsky, Klimt, Miró, Henry Moore, Umberto Boccioni, Morandi, and Filippo De Pisis.

Up on the top level, also partially closed, is the Museo d'Arte Orientale, a collection of mostly Japanese artifacts, but also Chinese, Javanese, Siamese (Thai), Cambodian, and Indonesian pieces. Rumors that this collection may eventually move, perhaps to the Palazzo Marcello, have persisted for several years, but for the moment nothing has happened.

Another Cumulative Ticket -- One ticket covers entrance to both the Ca' d'Oro and the Ca Pesaro for 5.50€; a cumulative ticket including the Accademia costs 11€.

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
