Frommer's Review
There are plenty of narrow, switchback, two-lane roads in Italy, but the one up here may take the cake. The "castel" is actually a modern hotel, with modular furnishings and lurid chipped-stone floors but fantastic coastal panoramas from the room balconies, most looking west over the French Riviera and Monte Carlo, some east over Italy. Renovations have added three junior suites with such a view. In a separate building are several rooms sharing common entryways so you can have a family suite (though the owners may soon turn these into proper suites). A few ground-floor rooms lack the sweeping views but open onto small lawns as compensation. The restaurant is on a panoramic terrace next to the pool and billiards, foosball, and Ping-Pong tables. There's a pub with karaoke, but it only opens in the months when the hotel part is closed (Oct-Mar).
Facilities:
Italian/international restaurant; bar; outdoor pool; bike rental; children's center; video arcade; concierge; tour desk; limited room service; babysitting; nonsmoking rooms

| 0 stars | Frommer's Recommended | |
| 1 stars | Frommer's Highly Recommended | |
| 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
