Mariscos Villa Rica Mocambo

This establishment prides itself on cooking Veracruz style. The menu includes all the seafood standards, plus a few dishes that are harder to come by in Mexico, let alone north of the border. Everything I tried, I enjoyed enormously. For starters, try a classic seafood cocktail. Veracruzano specialties include pampano al acuyo (pompano cooked in a sauce of green herbs), conch filet al ajillo (with toasted strips of guajillo peppers), and steak de camarón a la naranja (shrimp pressed together and cooked in orange sauce). Service is excellent. Look for an open-air thatched structure below the Mocambo hotel.
